Today I realized I’m a bit bored with using the same tarot decks over and over.  I love my same tarot decks for reading for myself, but for this weekly post, I wanted to do something a bit different.  So I decided to use one of my favorite oracle decks instead.

Seriously, if you haven’t used The Druid Animal Oracle by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm, you’re missing out.  The cards are kind of huge, which is annoying, but the art is gorgeous, and I just love the readings I get from this deck.  Each card feels so true, and so rich in symbolism.  I’ve always been drawn to work with animal totems anyways, so this deck is very personally relevant for me.

In the past position, we have bear, which represents connecting with your deep, ancestral roots.  It’s about listening to your intuition and instinct, paired with strength.  It’s a very strong, primal, and also spiritual card.  So we’ve done the leg work of opening our minds to our intuition in matters spiritual, and we’ve connected with the primal strength that lies within.

In the present position, we have the blackbird, representing our spiritual path towards the otherworld.  This card is about discovering hidden spiritual treasures within ourselves, delving the depths of our souls through dreams or myth.  So we’re in a very spiritual period right now, and we’re taking the instinct and intuition that we learned from bear into this spiritual discovery.

In the future position, we have the hind card, which is all about grace and the feminine principle.  They are also associated with the otherworld, specifically faerie, and are drawing us even further beyond the material world.  This is also a card of spiritual exploration, of letting go of all that’s superficial.

So this was a very positive, very spiritual reading.  In my own practice, I’ve noticed that my spirituality doesn’t come around in cycles, it’s more of a spiral, where each time I move back around to a deeply spiritual time, I’m building on what came before.  I’ve rededicated myself to my solitary path over the past few months, and it looks like the spiritual rewards are forthcoming.
