Deck Interview- The Secrets of WandWood Oracle

This deck was the WORST kind of impulse purchase. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw someone post a picture of the Mindfulness card from this deck in a witch group that I’m in. I was so struck by the owl holding a key, that I did several reverse image searches on it. I eventually found that it was a part of this deck. When I found that there were 5 copies left on Etsy, I hit that ‘PURCHASE’ button so hard you could probably hear it a few houses away. All in the middle of the night.

Do I have regrets? NOPE!

This deck is GORGEOUS. The watercolor illustrations are charming and delightful, and the stories in the accompanying book are lovely. I really love this deck, and I feel like it fits a niche in my collection that was empty. So I feel good about it overall.

My only beef is that I don’t love the cardstock. It’s really rigid and thick, and difficult to shuffle. But I’ll get past that. The deck is so gorgeous that it’s worth trying to work with the cards as they are.

The creators, Jacqui and Phil Lovesey, have built an entire world with their stories, illustrations, and oracle cards, and if you’d like a taste of that world, go to matlockthehare.com. I can’t recommend them enough!

Let’s take a look at what the cards have to say!

  1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?  Majickal Harmony. This card kept jumping out of the deck, and I knew it wanted to be the first card in our reading. From the book: “Things we may think of as a mistake often have unknown benefits to others, and are therefore part of life’s majickal symmetry. So we’re looking at our place on the web, here. How when we pluck one thread, the entire web vibrates. We’ll be looking at our place in the world and how what we do has consequences that reach beyond us.
  2. What are your strengths as a deck? Love. From the book: “A love of life and each other keeps your heart young whatever your age, for it knows nothing of years.” So this deck will help me to find my love for the people around me, even as I pluck the strings of the web mentioned above. This is a deck about connections.
  3. What are your limits as a deck? Decisions. “Any choice or decision is rarely the unlocking of just one door.” So it’s not here to do life path work and help you find your way. This deck doesn’t acknowledge the decision/consequence dichotomy that we’re so used to working with. It’s more about that connection that we’ve seen from the previous cards.
  4. What are you here to teach me?  Breathe. “Breathe and savour those majickal moments that require no understanding or explanation.” Again, I need to stop looking for the decision/consequences, and just see the magick around me. Enjoy the fact that the universe supports me.
  5. How can I best learn and collaborate with you? Guidance. “Whatever your belief, make time to commune and ring the bell of connectivity.” So I’ll use this deck to connect. To kind of ‘plug in’ to what’s happening around me. It’s not a deck about being solitary and making my decisions, it’s a deck about seeing how connected I am to everything around me.
  6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship? Dreams. “Make sure you allow yourself to dream, as dreams are the seeds you plant for your future.” I may actually find a different way of life-path working by dreaming the possibilities, instead of just trying to move in a linear direction. This may get me out of my Capricorn need to have a direction and move on that one path only!

Overall, I love what this deck is telling me. It reminds me of the connection I feel during deep meditation, but also on some psychedelics. I would love to be able to feel that connection at any time by just pulling a deck out and working with it!

Blessed be! <3
