This past week, Barbara and I volunteered at a nature summer day camp at the Holden Arboretum outside Cleveland, five days in the company of ten 7 year old kids. We hiked through woods, fished critters out of ponds, sang songs and played games on 3000 acres of woodland and gardens.

Bees and other pollinators are everywhere and in myriad variety due to the extensive flower gardens. The kids amazed me with their knowledge of the impact of humans on other species, especially in relation to use of pesticides in both agriculture and home gardening. I hope we were able to make some difference in their outlook on conservation and the prospect of a world without honey.
